**Job Summary**
Reporting directly to the chief executive officer, the executive vice president of Sanford Health Plan will be directly responsible for long-term performance, goals, the development of strategies, and growth opportunities for Sanford Health Plan. The executive will be tasked with the oversight of strategy, finance, board management, and program delivery of the Sanford Health Plan by executing the business strategy of the health plan to enable achievement of its long-term vision and providing overall leadership in the fulfillment of the mission, vision, and strategic priorities. He or she will provide leadership, strategic direction, and visibility for the health plan and serve as the public representative of the health plan to the people and communities it serves. The leader will represent the organization with providers, vendors, major customers, sales agents, shareholders, the financial community, and the public. Forecasting and resolving the most complex organizational health plan issues and ensuring compliance with strategic corporate and operating policies.
Facilitating cross-departmental collaboration and strengthening internal communications.
Creating and promoting a positive, integrated, multicultural work environment that supports consistency throughout the enterprise’s strategy, operational methods, and data collection needs.
Following trends in health care, operation, insurance, compliance, and legal regulations to provide guidance, direction, and authorization to implement major plans and procedures, consistent with all legal compliance policies.
Being responsible for enterprise-wide operations of the health plan, including policies and budget related to operations.
Accountability for the establishment of performance metrics and outcomes regarding quality, financial, and service standards.
Responsibly grow the health plan’s number of lives.
Oversee the strategy and implementation of product design and development, marketing and sales, provider relations, contracting, and all other health plan operations.
Promoting, in a positive manner, the philosophy, mission, and values of the health system throughout its regions and with all affiliated organizations.
Recruiting, hiring, and terminating direct reports, ensuring consistency with system policies.
Holding direct reports accountable for achieving plans and performance targets, working with them to identify and resolve issues and problems affecting their areas, and providing them with counsel, guidance, and direction as appropriate.
Facilitating the involvement of staff and others with the required skills and expertise as needed.
Promoting a climate of support for the organization’s employees and encouraging the professional growth and development of its leaders.
**Qualifications**
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Health Administration (MHA), or a master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
A minimum of ten years’ experience in the health plan administration or healthcare field, including at least five years of executive management experience, is required, and prior leadership experience with a provider-sponsored health plan will be seen favorably. Broad knowledge and experience in the managed care industry, with specific experience in group insurance product design and development, marketing and sales, provider relations, payer negotiation and contracting, provider risk and reward systems, and general health plan operations.
