*POSITION SUMMARY:*
Responsible for managing remote inpatient coding resources in addition to monitoring coding processes and DNFC oversight for assigned facilities. The manager will be a coding resource for the coding staff, HIMD and medical staff as needed. Participates in the identification of educational opportunities for the company.
*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:*
* Supervises and monitors daily coding functions and processes to ensure compliance with all Federal and State regulations for coding.
* Assesses coding accuracy and competency through review and audit results. Responsible for creating and monitoring any action plans that are necessary because of an audit/review.
* Assesses coder productivity and is responsible for creating and monitoring any action plans that are necessary based on results.
* Assesses staffing needs to ensure appropriate coding coverage is in place at all times.
* Manages vendor resources to ensure coding accuracy and productivity are maintained. Reports deviations to Director of Coding Operations and works with vendor leadership for any necessary action plans.
* Participates in hospital-based initiates including HAC/HARMS, DRG reconciliation, and others as pertinent.
* Training of new hires on facility specific EHR and HIS systems.
* Manage coder assignments by prioritizes coding functions to ensure records are coded within facility defined number of days from discharge. Collaborates with the team to maintain and exceed DNFC goals while maintaining good employee relations.
* Maintain accuracy (EIB, non-productive, missed punches) in Kronos for coding resources.
* Must be familiar with ICD-10-CM/PCS, Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs), the Inpatient Prospective
* Uses independent discretion/decision making while effectively working alone.
* Attends educational webinars, conference calls, other coding seminars, and participates in all formal and informal coding discussions. Complete all assigned compliance courses within assigned period of time.
* Maintain at least twenty (20) continuing education hours annually and maintain required credentials.
* Conforms to AHIMA’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Ethical Coding, LifePoint Attendance Policy and ensures patient/employee privacy and dignity by maintaining confidentiality with no infractions.
* Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
*Education:*
Associates Degree required.
*Experience:*
Minimum of eight years coding experience in an acute care hospital setting with the ability to code all patient types in the acute care hospital setting. Minimum of three years of experience in coding management.
*Certifications:*
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required with Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
