Overview
**Description**
The Speech Pathologist functions under the general guidance of the rehabilitation leadership team and direction of the Director of Rehabilitation Therapy Services. The staff Speech Pathologist assumes responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients/clients and provides speech therapy evaluations, modalities and treatments in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care.
The Speech Pathologist may be assigned to orient staff and students and to assume the duties and responsibilities of the director in the absence of that individual.
The Speech Pathologist accurately assesses patient/client needs; identifies and initiates appropriate speech therapy interventions; provides patient/client and family teaching; and works cooperatively with other patient/client team personnel in maintaining standards for professional speech therapy and interdisciplinary teamwork. These functions are carried out according to hospital policy in accordance with the mission and vision of the hospital and consistent with the philosophy of the department.
The Speech Pathologist participates in performance improvement and program development activities. Responsibilities include providing input into the budgetary planning process; contributing to cost effectiveness of services and programs provided by the department; communicating for improvement; and maintaining positive relations with all customers.

**Required Qualifications:**
+ Master’s Degree in speech and language pathology, Or
+ May accept individual in a clinical fellowship based upon interview and clinical experience as a student.
+ Washington Speech Language Pathologist License upon hire.
+ National Provider BLS – American Heart Association upon hire.
**Preferred Qualification:**
+ One (1) year specialized Speech therapy training or experience to meet a particular department need.
