We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist. The Payroll Specialist plays an integral part of our organization, responsible for administering payroll, recordkeeping and being a supportive resource to our employees in support of the overall finance function. 
The ideal individual possesses a high sense of urgency, a passion for continuous learning, and puts relationships, integrity, and authenticity front and center to make their 90,000 hours matter for something beyond punching a clock. 

This is a full-time remote position reporting to the Employee Operations Manager.

You’re excited about this role because you’ll get to:

  • Administer payroll for all employees in the organization, including pay calculations, garnishments, calculating final termination payouts, and balancing of federal, state, and local taxes for a multi-state company, consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Maintain and update personnel records in the HRIS system, including approval of new hires, transfers, promotions, terminations, and other employee record changes
  • Maintain and monitor timecard entries and approvals for managers and employees on a weekly basis, and function as a backup for managers and employees for timecard adjustments
  • Review timecards, compute wages, reconcile wages, overtime, and other types of pay with accuracy and compliance with company policy and/or applicable regulation, resolving any discrepancies or errors in a timely manner
  • Conduct research of new payroll laws associated with company growth or changes (federal, state and local)
  • Complete employment verifications and unemployment claims
  • Prepare and reconcile pre/post payroll reports
  • Research, analyze, and resolve all payroll discrepancies, reporting to leadership as needed
  • Process payroll related notices including garnishments, child support or tax levies
  • Assist in end of month and year reporting and auditing
  • Create and distribute required reports for internal and external audiences
  • Set up local taxes and other deduction codes as applicable
  • Respond to employee or internal team inquiries
  • Manage ad-hoc projects in support of the finance function

We’re excited about you because you:

  • Have at least 3+ years payroll experience for multi-state companies with 100+ employees (staffing industry preferred)
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations
  • Know how to build reports and visualize data in Excel or other analysis tools
  • Are a problem solver and love to identify and implement solutions to make processes more efficient
  • Exercise good judgement and have handled highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Are deadline driven and have a proven ability to effectively organize and prioritize your work
  • Have a keen attention to detail – nothing gets by you!
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally across all levels of the company
