Overview

The Registered Nurse in the ICU provides direct and indirect patient care. He/she applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Registered Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients, and families. He/She works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered.

*Essential Functions*

Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of the patient.

Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide care to patients.

Establishing, reviewing, revising, and following the patient plan of care.

Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse.

Recording patient care activities including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patients’ medical records.

Using a variety of computer systems

Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient.

Providing patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge, and self-care.

Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes

Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients and promotes health and healing.

The ability and willingness to follow establishes Standards of Performance.

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Must possess strong computer skills and have the ability to work with multiple computer systems

Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English

Must be able to operate standard patient care equipment for services provided.

*Job Requirements*

*Minimum Education*
Active Tennessee RN license or Compact State RN license with the intent to obtain a Tennessee RN license within 30 days of hire.

*Required Skills*
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Must possess strong computer skills and can work with multiple computer systems
Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English
Must be able to operate standard patient care equipment for services provided.

*Required Skills*
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR current or within 30 days of hire
ACLS current or within 1 year of hire.
PALS current or within 1 year of hire.
