*Position Summary:*
* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
* Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens. Maintains adequate stock of supplies.
* Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
* Performs clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and filing.
* Communicates test results to appropriate healthcare providers.
* Obtains venous and capillary blood specimens.
* Performs collection of other physiologic samples as required such as bleeding times, sweat chlorides, and therapeutic phlebotomies.
* Prepares and assures transport of specimens to laboratory for analysis. Pneumatic tube usage.
* Performs and results waived testing procedures after training and successful competency evaluation.
* Identifies problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and notifies MLT, MT, supervisor or director immediately.
* Follows laboratory’s established policies and procedures.
* Documents any corrective action taken when situation deviates from established characteristics on the remedial/corrective action logs. Notifies MT, supervisor of immediate concerns.
* Loads analyzers for technologist
* Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements, including all state, TJC and Federal regulations in their area of practice.
* Attends and participates in department staff meetings; reads and signs all meeting minutes as acknowledgement of information received; demonstrates compliance and knowledge of new changes within department and hospital.
* Complies with annual TB and Fit Testing requirements as it related to the job.
* Demonstrates an awareness and implementation of National Patient Safety Goals as applicable in their area of practice.
* Demonstrates and takes responsibility for workplace safety. Exhibits knowledge regarding the hazard and injury reporting procedures.
* Complies with Confidentiality/ HIPAA requirements and observes patient privacy needs.
* Practices proper infection control techniques and understands importance of following IC requirements. Attends mandatory in-services, staff meetings and pertinent seminars.
* Completes mandatory annual education requirements.
*Minimum Qualifications:*
* Certifications:Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days of hire
* Education: High school diploma or equivalent
