Overview
**Description**
The Biomedical Technician is responsible for installation, electrical safety inspections, periodic maintenance, performance testing and major and minor repairs of medical equipment in assigned areas of the hospital, as well as external/retail clients. The Biomedical Technician operates sophisticated test equipment and instrumentation for inspections, performance tests, and periodic maintenance/repairs of medical equipment. The testing data acquired from said testing is analyzed and may be prepared for reports. The Biomedical Technician has a thorough understanding of biomedical equipment commonly used in general care areas. The Biomedical Technician may be exposed to or responsible for modalities such as life -support and advanced equipment that will prepare them for the Senior Biomedical Technician role. In addition, must be able to perform tasks outlined in Associate Biomedical Technician.

**Job Specific Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:**
Documentation:
* Utilizes documentation to identify trends on repairs
* Identify needed reports
* Develops and maintains technical documentation associated with troubleshooting caregiver hardware and software issues.

Regulatory Requirements:
* Follows OEM instructions when doing repairs, calibration and tests.
* Complies with department policies, procedures and standards.
Technology Foundations:
* Electronics Theory:
◦ Demonstrates broad knowledge of electronic theory, technology, and test equipment.
◦ Demonstrates broad knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiring marking.
◦ Operates a wide variety of hand-tools, power tools, and test equipment used in the repair, testing and calibration of medical equipment.
◦ Takes safety precautions while performing service-related activities with electrical equipment and identifies means to make a safer environment. •
Medical Devices:
◦ Performs repair, calibration, testing, and preventative maintenance on a variety of medical equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications.
◦ Demonstrates knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as applied to use of biomedical equipment.
◦ Runs diagnostic programs on a broad range medical devices and uses results to identify any issues. Follows through on any necessary repairs/calibrations. •
Operating Systems & Networks:
◦ Demonstrates a broad knowledge in the basic operations of Providence medical assets (e.g., computers, servers network equipment).
◦ Runs various diagnostic programs (e.g., ScanDisk, Ping, Trace Route, OS commands).
◦ Demonstrates basic knowledge of network theory and how it applies to Providence medical assets. ◦ Understands and assists in the configuration of DHCP operations.
Clinical Engagement:
* Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing with staff, physicians, and visitors.
* Actively participates with department/ministry teams, e.g., code blue, alarm, etc.
* Builds relationships through rounding with staff.
* Interprets how changes will impact medical devices / systems.
* Demonstrates understanding ofthe broad business requirements ofthe clinical caregivers for the departments assigned.
**Required qualifications:**
+ Associate’s Degree Biomedical Equipment Technology Or
+ Coursework/Training: Electronics Technology, Military or Technical Training Or equivalent educ/experience
+ Upon request: If position requires driving, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance per company policy will be required.
**Preferred qualifications:**
+ 3 years Experience in repair of biomedical equipment
