**Caregiver Health RN – Employee Health @ Swedish First Hill**
**Day Shift**
**10 Hour Shift**

Accountable for the clinical, operational, and support activities of the Department of Employee Health in accordance with the Swedish Center’s mission, values, and strategic plan. The Employee Health Nurse will develop and administer programs which contribute to improved health and prevention of illness in SMC employees. Activities include, but are not limited to, new employee health screening, provision of appropriate vaccines, TB screening, medical referrals and employee assistant program referrals. Employee Health is a resource to employees and management to enhance the health of SMC staff utilizing available resources.

+ Refer employees for both physical consultation and emotional counseling to either medical physicians, Wellspring Employee Assistance Program (EAP), or other community resources as appropriate.
+ Interview employees who have become ill at work and advise on the proper action to be taken. Notify Epidemiology/Infection control of communicable exposures or risks.
+ Screen employees returning back to work following illness or injury per Employee Health/Epidemiology guidelines. Obtain the employee’s permission verbally or by signing a release of medical information to contact the private physician as necessary for information regarding the health status according to confidentiality laws.
+ Assist the supervisors and HR in counseling employees with excessive attendance problems and work to eliminate any health problems by using available resources.
+ Evaluate a pre-employment medical health questionnaire for all new hires and take appropriate action per department policies for PPDs, vaccination, and documentation.
+ Provide federal and Washington State required TB (PPD) skin testing and vaccinations to the new employee as indicated per job description.
+ Ensure that all reported incidents, including needlesticks and blood exposures, receive appropriate medical intervention and documentation. Notify injured employees manager to investigate, educate and intervene. Implement systems and education to increase reporting. Use safety devices provided by SMC to protect from accidental exposures and to provide a positive role model for employees. Notify Safety Officer as needed.
+ Treat injuries and illnesses per Standing Orders.
+ Maintain appropriate written (and electronic if available) confidential records on all employees and persons with services contracted through Employee Health.
+ Maintain log of activities.
+ Employee Health on each campus will provide a monthly report to Epidemiology or Infection Control listing communicable risks such as PPD conversions, pertussis exposures, scabies, etc.
+ Refer employees to their private physician, a physician of an appropriate specialty, or the Emergency Department if indicated.
+ Provide employee with the necessary L&I forms to be completed.
+ Coordinate with Risk Management regarding all workers compensation incidents.
+ Coordinate TB prevention program to include PPDs, chest x-rays and referrals to either private physicians, ID Physician, or the Seattle King County Public Health TB Chest Clinic as indicated.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Baccalaureate degree (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing or equivalent educ/experience.
+ If not BSN, must have at least five years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in patient assessment and care.
+ Applicants without a BSN degree must actively pursue and attain a BSN within six (6) years of hire.
+ Registered Nurses hired between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2015 must actively pursue and attain a BSN within seven (7) years of hire. In the event that the employee does not acquire his/her BSN by the above deadlines, there will be a labor/management review process and discussion on the nurse’s individual circumstance.
+ Washington Registered Nurse License upon hire.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Registered Nurses employed by Swedish prior to January 1, 2013 are encouraged to pursue the BSN degree, but obtaining the degree will not be a condition of employment.
+ Certification in Occupational Health upon hire.
+ Experience in employee health, occupational health, public health, and adult education.
+ Prior experience in post exposure prophylaxis and HIV counseling. Candidates without prior experience in pre and post HIV Test counseling will receive on-the-job training.
