Overview

Position Summary

Completes transactions, receives and disburses case, and processes credit or debit card transactions using electronic scanners and cash registers.

Receives payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.

· Issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.

· Balance cash, prepare deposit ticket and complete the journal entry form for the cashier window drawer.

· Receive monies and posting sheets from hospital departments that are collecting payments from patients. The money amount is logged, balanced to the posting sheets and a journal entry is prepared for the Accounting Department.

· Receive & log non patient money from departments such as Dietary and Human Resources.

· Validate deposit amount for the mail payments and prepare the journal entry form for the Accounting Department.

· Provides customer service by greeting customers, providing information and resolving complaints.

· Establishes or identifies prices of goods and tabulates bills using calculators, cash registers, or price scanners.

· Train registration and/or financial counselors as needed to serve as back up for cashier.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent Required

Required Skills

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Customer Service Skills, Telephone skills/etiquette, cash handling skills, computer skills, calculator skills, office machinery skills.

Requires prolonged sitting (up to 90% of the work day). Requires lifting up to twenty-five pounds.

Minimum Work Experience

Cash posting/balancing experience.
