Overview
The Certified Nurse-Midwife provides comprehensive, primary health care to a select population of essentially healthy women. Participates in the care of women with medical complications in collaboration with the Obstetricians – Gynecologists.
Performs accurate history and physician examinations on essentially healthy women.
Provides primary care in an ambulatory setting to women including ordering and evaluation of diagnostic tests and management of minor complications.
Provides inpatient obstetrical care for essentially healthy women including labor management, delivery of infants, repair of lacerations/episiotomy and management of minor complications. Initiates emergency care as needed.
Provides individualized client teaching and counseling utilizing the nurse-midwifery philosophy.
Identifies deviations from normal and consults, co-manages or refers as appropriate.
Completes necessary documentation.
Participates in research and continuing education activities.
*Minimum Education*
□ Master’s degree □ Preferred X Required Graduate of an accredited school of Nurse-Midwifery.
*Required Skills*
Licenses: Certification by ACNM or ACC, Licensed by State of Virginia.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP). Required for FBC within 6 months of hire.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
*Minimum Work Experience*
Preferred: One to two years experience in OB/Gyn setting.
