Overview
The *Clinical Educator/Wound Care Nurse*is a registered professional nurse who functions under the direction of the Director of Education. This nurse possesses advanced clinical expertise and utilizes this expertise to support learning and the delivery of safe, age appropriate, and culturally aware patient care. The*Clinical**Educator/Wound Care Nurse*demonstrates knowledge of educational theories, methods of delivery, and the ability to develop and facilitate relevant and effective education for the adult learner. This individual is a resource to all levels of staff and is responsible for assessing learning needs, planning activities, developing curriculum to address identified needs, and collecting and analyzing data to evaluate education to ensure positive outcomes. The Educator promotes quality, evidence-based practice, and supports nursing research. Communicates and collaborates with physicians and other members of the health team to provide consistent quality care for patients with wounds. Assists patients with wound healing modalities to achieve the level of independent functioning possible. Complies with the hospital and nursing philosophy and standards while performing job duties and responsibilities. Provides nursing care to patients with ostomies, fistulae, tubes, dermal wounds, and incontinence.
*Wound Care*
* Follows patients identified to be at moderate to high risk for skin breakdown and patients with complex wound management needs.
* Collaborates with medical teammates to identify care measures to prevent and treat pressure ulcers, complex wounds, and fistulae.
* Works in concert with the medical staff in the use and application of clinical devices/support surfaces for the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.
* Develops and maintains evidence-based practice guidelines for care of the ostomy and skin care patients.
* Answers telephone calls and assists staff.
* Maintains confidentiality.
*Position Highlights:*
* 40hrs per week
* Non-Exempt Hourly
*Minimum Education:*
* Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
* Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
* WOCN required within 1 year of hire
*Required Skills:*
* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
*Certifications:*
* BLS required.
* ACLS within 6 months of hire or transfer.
* PALS within 6 months of hire or transfer.
* Handle with Care Program Trainer or obtain within one year of hire (or transfer).
***Licenses:*
* Current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state (compact) license).
*Minimum Work Experience:*
* Experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting for at least 1 year.
