JOB SUMMARY:
Directs the Peds Med Surg, L&D, NICU, Mother/Baby and Lactation Services departmental activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
The Director assumes responsibility for the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of nursing care for the units. Efforts are focused on providing appropriate structures to support safe care, quality improvement activities to ensure high quality care and continuous improvement processes to ensure cost containment/reduction, encouraging staff development and insuring that staff competence is maintained at an acceptable level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical,administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s / area’s / department’s policies and procedures.

Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
Seeks, analyzes and enhances patient care and services to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of the customer.
In collaboration with Corporate Compliance, Risk Management and other deemed necessary, will investigate all incidents, accidents, complaints and grievances.
Performance review includes recognition of active participation in briefs, debriefs, huddles, learning boards, and executive patient safety rounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree is preferred
Licensure & Certifications:
Must have a current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of North Carolina or from a compact state.
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) current and maintained.
AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within one year and maintained thereafter
AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within one year and maintained thereafter
National Certification
Minimum Work Experience
Three years of hospital nursing with at least one year in a leadership role is desired.
Required Skills:
Must have the capacity to work independently, meet goals and deadlines, plan effectively with little to no direct supervision.
Must have skill in maintaining confidential information to protect patients, staff, and providers as required by privacy laws and regulations.
Must have the ability to perform effectively in stressful situations at times.
Excellent organizational, communication and relationship skills required.
