**Emergency Department Technician @ Swedish Edmonds**

**Part Time (24 Hour Week)**

Supports nursing and physician staff by performing tasks that assist in the care and treatment of patients with illnesses and injuries. Serves as a liaison among members of the healthcare team, patients and families. Organizes, replaces and maintains inventory and supply levels in the Department. Assists in other department-related activities. Take a proactive approach in anticipating the needs of the patient and/or care team by performing and completing tasks within scope of practice.

+ Provides basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician.

+ Assists Registered Nurses and Physicians through such tasks as taking vital signs and preparing equipment and supplies for procedures.

+ Performs approved orthopedic procedures such as plaster splint applications and other orthopedic splints/ devices.

+ Performs basic first aid measures as well as procedures such as basic wound care, irrigation, wound prep, and dressing applications.

+ Performs basic patient observation skills and reports significant changes in patient condition to appropriate team member.

+ Connects patients to various monitoring equipment. Performs 12 lead ECG’s. Recognizes and responds appropriately to critical arrhythmias.

+ Communicates effectively with Registered Nurses and other caregivers regarding patient issues, MD issues, and equipment.

+ Communicates in a compassionate manner to patients, families, and visitors. Assists patient families and friends in support of patient care and well being.

+ Performs clinical testing such as Hemacues, Istats, urine dips and pregnancy urine testing. Uses glucometer to check blood glucose levels. Collects other specimens such as sputum and urine.

+ Uses appropriate forms and documents pertinent patient data accurately, legibly and concisely according to policy.

+ Receives and records laboratory and other patient data reports and conveys information accurately to Registered Nurse and Physician.

+ Performs phlebotomy according to established standards.

+ Maintains and organizes patient medical records during patient stay. Assures completion of required documentation elements before chart leaves Department. Maintains patient confidentiality.

+ Monitors, orders, and restocks unit (central services, stores, linen, non-stock, etc.) with supplies and emergency equipment as indicated.

+ Assists with patient admitting, transfer, and discharge procedures. Transports patients via wheelchair and stretcher.

+ May perform duties such as telephone, order entry, scanning, copying, etc. to assist as needed relative to patient volume.

+ Assists with the facilitation of patient education relative to the treatment plan (i.e. crutch walking instructions).

**Required Qualifications:**

+ H.S. Diploma or GED

+ Washington Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification upon hire

+ Washington Nursing Assistant Certification License upon hire, Or

+ Washington Nursing Assistant Registered upon hire

+ National Provider BLS – American Heart Association upon hire

+ 1 year recent emergency department or related medical experience providing direct patient care, preferably in a free-standing emergency department

+ EMT-B recent experience will be considered. EMT-B procedures and skills allowed are generally non-invasive

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Nursing or other health care related training
