Position Summary
Performs technical and clerical functions in one or more sections of the Laboratory.Requirescriticalthinkingskills,decisivejudgmentandtheabilitytoworkwithminimalsupervision.Mustbeabletoworkinastressfulenvironmentandtakeappropriateaction.
* Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens. Maintains adequate stock of supplies.
* Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
* Performsclericaldutiesincludingansweringphones,dataentry,andfiling. Communicatestestresultstoappropriatehealthcareproviders.
* Obtains venous and capillary blood specimens.
* Performscollectionofotherphysiologicsamplesasrequiredsuchasbleedingtimes,sweatchlorides,and therapeuticphlebotomies.
* Preparesandassurestransportofspecimenstolaboratoryforanalysis. Pneumatic tubeusage.
* Performs and results waived testing procedures after training and successful competency evaluation.
* IdentifiesproblemswhichmayadverselyaffecttestperformanceorreportingoftestresultsandnotifiesMLT, MT,supervisorordirectorimmediately.
* Follows laboratory’s established policies and procedures.
* Documentsanycorrectiveactiontakenwhensituationdeviatesfromestablishedcharacteristicsonthe remedial/correctiveactionlogs.NotifiesMT,supervisorofimmediateconcerns.
* Load analyzers for Technologist
* Maintainscompliancewithregulatoryrequirements,includingallstate,TJCandFederalregulationsintheir area ofpractice.
* Attendsandparticipatesindepartmentstaffmeetings;readsandsignsallmeetingminutesas acknowledgementofinformationreceived;demonstratescomplianceandknowledgeofnew changes within department and hospital.
* Consistentlysupportsthemission,visionandgoalsoftheorganization.Actsinapositive,proactivemannerto supportdepartmentandhospitaleffortsinthecommunityandwithco-workers.
* Complies with annual TB and Fit Testing requirements as it related to the job.
* HasdemonstratedanawarenessandimplementationofNationalPatientSafetyGoalsasapplicableintheir area ofpractice.
* Knows, understands, and adheres to system/hospital/department policies and procedures.
* Demonstratesandtakesresponsibilityforworkplacesafety.Exhibitsknowledgeregardingthehazardand injury reportingprocedures.
* Complies with Confidentiality/ HIPAA requirements and observes patient privacy needs.
* UnderstandsCultural/spiritualdiversityissuesastheyrelatetothejob;iscognizantofpatient’scultural differencesandincludesspiritualhealthasacomponentofpatientcare.
* PracticesproperinfectioncontroltechniquesandunderstandsimportanceoffollowingICrequirements. Attendsmandatoryin-services,staffmeetingsandpertinentseminars.
