Legal Secretary – Columbia, South Carolina

Join our client's growing law firm in Columbia, SC, as a Legal Secretary. This on-site position supports up to four partners and associates during regular office hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm). Our client is a national labor and employment law firm serving employers. The law firms'  attorneys represent employers with issues that arise at the intersection of business and employment law, including labor relations, employment, employee benefits, immigration, litigation disputes, pay equity, noncompetition, and workplace safety.Â
Responsibilities:
- E-filings, pleadings preparation, index updates, and exhibit preparation.
- Organize and maintain files systematically.
- Draft legal documents and correspondence.
- Review and process vendor invoices.
- Apply client-specific billing guidelines.
- Assist in prebill and client bill reviews.
- Provide clerical support, including typing, transcribing, and document management.
- Accurate filing of court documents, adhering to local requirements.
- Handle information on behalf of clients and attorneys.
- Friendly telephone support and receptionist relief.
- Timely mail handling and proofreading of documents.
- Anticipate attorney needs and support timekeeper efficiencies.
- Coordinate meetings and make necessary arrangements.
- Assist with CLE compliance, presentations, and non-billable activities.
- Accurate preparation of client intake forms.
- Follow document naming and profiling conventions.
- Update client files, notebooks, and pleading indices.
- Maintain attorney-specific case lists and contact records.
- Prioritize and manage work assignments effectively.
- Offer assistance to others when needed.
- Accurate entry, review, and revision of timesheets.
- Develop and maintain systems for organization and efficiency.
- Compliance with office policies on file management and recordkeeping.
- Effective calendaring of deadlines and key dates.
- Knowledge of the litigation process.
Requirements:
- High school diploma (College degree preferred).
- Minimum five years of legal secretary experience.
- Proficiency in Lexis Nexis, Pacer, ECF, document management systems, and MS Office.
- Strong attendance, communication, and customer service skills.
- Dependability, professionalism, and ability to work independently.
- Team player mindset.
- Basic PC skills; familiarity with office equipment.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and processes.
- Accurate typing at a net speed of 65+ wpm.
- Computer proficiency in MS Office, Document Management, Time Entry, and e-filing.
