Overview
This position provides delivery of patient care with the knowledge of a*Licensed Practical Nurse*. Must demonstrate the clinical ability to work as an LPN under the supervision of the Registered Nurse on the Unit to which assigned. Must be able to coordinate the delivery of patient care on the Unit; completes required documentation; participates in the patient/family teaching and discharge planning, effectively utilizing the Nursing Process. Works cooperatively and effectively with physicians, ancillary staff, and other administrative and support personnel in maintaining the standards of professional nursing practice in the multidisciplinary clinical setting. Maintains quality delivery of patient care by completing patient assignments in compliance with the Nursing Process, the North Carolina Nurse Practice Act, and established Hospital Policies and Procedures.
*Essential Functions:*
* Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse the LPN utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and skills to assist in the coordination of the heath care team to facilitate the patient’s achievement of optimum health.
* Performs plan of care interventions, including specimen collection and wound care. May administer
* medication. Documents patient care given.
* Assists RN with development of plan of care. Ensure that pain management is implemented and documented. Documentation of pain Management must include pain scale, medication given and/or alternative used. Results of medication and/or alternatives must also be documented.
* Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
* Monitors, documents, and communicates patient’s status and reactions to interventions with RN, physician, patient, and families.
* Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
* Perform with the scope of practice for a LPN.
* Works collaboratively with Physicians, Director and charge nurse to promote the reduction of restraints.
*Minimum Education*
* Associates Degree or Diploma in LPN required.
*Required Skills*
* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
*Certifications*
* Basic Life Support (BLS)
* Handle with Care within 3 months of hire
* Licenses:Current LPN license to practice in NC (NC license or multi-state compact license).
*Minimum Work Experience*
* At least 1 year of LPN experience (acute care experience preferred).
**Required to be enrolled in an accredited RN program by the end of the 1st year of employment. RN Degree and license must be obtained by the end of the 3rd year of employment unless otherwise approved by the CNO and Director of HR.
