*POSITION SUMMARY:*

The Manager, Liability Claims & Insurance, is responsible for providing oversight during investigating, as well as directing, overseeing, managing, and resolving liability exposures of owned facilities and employed physicians. Responsibilities also include supporting and maintaining the Company’s and its subsidiaries’ compliance with state insurance rules and regulations, including workers’ compensation enrollment in monopolistic states and otherwise supporting Company insurance operations.

*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:* To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.

* Responsible for the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of medical professional and general liability claims for assigned Hospitals.
* Perform duties to include, but not limited to, assignment of defense counsel, manage the litigation process, negotiate settlements and attend mediations and trials.
* Investigate incidents, claims, and exposures of hospitals and employed physicians.
* Evaluate financial exposure, setting financial reserves and reporting upstream when exposures exceed personal authority.
* Evaluate Company’s exposure, set appropriate reserves, and communicate to the Senior Director, Liability Claims.
* Maintain a current diary system to review progress of claims and litigation and update file status as the claim matures keeping in mind a plan for resolution.
* Direct Risk Managers and/or defense counsel in claims and litigation as they develop.
* Attend Mediations and Trials, providing supporting documentation if needed, representing the Company.
* Negotiate and extend settlement authority and resolve claims, both formally in mediations and informally in direct negotiations.
* Review outside counsel’s work product and fees and communicate to any involved parties.
* Facilitate and maintain subsidiary enrollment in monopolistic state workers’ compensation programs.
* Assist the AVP, Workers’ Compensation, in the annual renewals of workers’ compensation programs.
* Lead the Company and its subsidiaries with required OSHA reporting arising out of workers’ compensation matters.
* Support the department’s day to day insurance operations.
* Regular and reliable attendance.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

*Education:* Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

*Experience:* Minimum of 2 years relevant experience preferred; management of general and/or professional liability or workers’ compensation claims plus policy administration knowledge.
