Position Summary:
Directs the department’s activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives. Authority and responsibility of directing, planning, coordinating, and administering the medical records program of the hospital; supervising and managing department operations; and is directly responsible for supervising the Medical Record Analysts/Coders, Medical Records Transcriptionists and Medical Records Clerk. Ensures that medical records are complete and accurate, and conform to accepted JCAHO and state BOH standards. The Director of Health Information Management is also the Privacy Officer of the Hospital and is required to provide guidance and instruction to the hospital employees.

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in health information or related degree or an equivalent combination of education/experience is necessary.

• Five (5) years of progressive experience in HIM, medical records department leadership required.
• Demonstrated competency with one or more electronic medical records systems.
• Must be able to effectively interact with patients, staff, clinicians, and executives of an organization.
• Must be self-directed and exhibit strong leadership and communication skills with a proven ability to lead and influence meaningful change.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and define problems, evaluate and weigh alternatives, work effectively to remove barriers, and implement solutions.
• Must possess strong analytical and reporting skills.
• Must be proficient in utilizing a personal computer and Microsoft-related software office products.

• Credentialed through AHIMA as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required within one year of hire.
• Certification through AHIMA as a Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) desired.
