ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs order entry, phlebotomies, and collects other specimens such as urine drug screens when necessary.
Performs laboratory testing in all areas of the laboratory to include Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology, Coagulation, Immunohematology, Microbiology, and Chemistry under the supervision of an accredited medical technologist or medical laboratory technician.
Performs routine maintenance tasks as designated for laboratory analyzers in all areas of the clinical laboratory under the supervision of an accredited medical technologist or medical laboratory technician.
Performs calibrations and quality control when required and is responsible for verifying the integrity of such testing under the supervision of an accredited medical laboratory technologist or medical laboratory technician.
Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary under the supervision of an accredited medical laboratory technologist or medical laboratory technician.
Assists in keeping supplies at adequate levels by completing weekly departmental inventories under the supervision of an accredited medical laboratory technologist or medical laboratory technician.
Participates in hospital wide and departmental performance improvement activities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum EducationSuccessful completion of 3 semesters Associates of Science degree in an accredited Clinical/Medical Laboratory Technology program or equivalent Associates Degree in Science.
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals in a constructive and professional manner.
Certifications: New graduates pass certification exam ASCP or AMT within one year of initial employment.
