Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

Manages the daily operations of the assigned department or function to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives.

Essential Functions:

Assists with developing specific departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization.

Manages staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, and conflict management. Performs and oversees scheduling, staff development, recruitment, payroll, and student engagements. Holds monthly staff meetings with all responsible units.

Monitors departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, departmental contracts, and vendor relations. Determines and justifies needs for systems/equipment/supplies purchases, monitors usage, and oversees proper working order and/or stock supplies.

Assesses the quality of patient care delivered and coordinates patient care services with patients, staff, physicians, and other departments. May provide patient care when necessary. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information necessary to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs to provide the care needed.

Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth. Promotes education and staff development.

Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Performance review includes recognition of active participation in briefs, debriefs, huddles, learning boards, and executive patient safety rounds.

Qualifications:

Licenses: Must have current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of North Carolina or from a compact state.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree is preferred

Certifications: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) maintained

Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Minimum Work Experience:
Minimum one year of leadership experience in Surgical Services preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
Minimum experience of four years clinical experience in perioperative nursing.
