Overview
Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
Assists with Central Sterile Supply, ensuring working order and performs cleaning and sterilization of equipment and instruments and rooms.
Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments. Assists with Central Sterile Supply as needed.Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.Validates that all needed items are present prior to starting the procedure. Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
Minimum EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalent Preferred
Associate’s Degree Preferred
• Certified Surgical First Assist certification required.• Graduate of an accredited program for Surgical Scrub Technician.
Required SkillsCertifications:Basic Life Support (BLS) with in 7 days
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
