**Description**

This position is a one-year training experience leading in Geriatric Medicine. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Certificate of Added Qualifications Exam in Geriatrics. Fellows acquire clinical skills through the care of elderly patients in the inpatient, outpatient and skilled nursing facility. Didactics and teaching conferences contribute to the acquisition of cognitive and professional skills. All services are supervised at an appropriate level by attending physicians.

**Education** : Graduation from an accredited medical school or osteopathic school. Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Residency Training Program.

**Licensures/Certifications:** At least a current Medical physician and Surgeon Limited License.

**Experience and Skills:** In addition to appropriate training as above, fellows must have demonstrated interest in the care of elderly adults. Fellows must possess the intellectual, communication, social, sensory and motor skills to perform the professional role of family medicine/internal medicine physician. Fellows must be board eligible or board certified in the specialty of Family Practice. Fellows must obtain at minimum, a current Medical Physician and Surgeon Limited License to practice Medicine in the state of Washington.

The Fellow, without the use of an intermediary, must be able to learn and perform the following:

+ Take a medical history and perform a physical exam and perform a psychiatric history & mental status evaluation

+ Address routine and emergent patient care needs in multiple care settings, demonstrating good medical judgment.

+ Communicate professionally with older patients, their caregivers, family, and staff.

+ Perform timely, consistent, reliable follow-up on patient care issues, lab results, patient phone calls, and other requests.

+ Appropriately use the electronic medical record as well as electronic educational resources for patient care and teaching.

+ Perform timely documentation, chart completion and other paperwork.

+ Prioritize multiple competing duties safely and appropriately.

+ Participate in and complete required rotations.

+ Supervise family practice residents in clinic and hospital care and prepare and deliver didactic presentations on geriatric topics

+ Provide culturally-competent, patient-centered care to all.
