Overview

This position is responsible for performing various radiographic procedures including routine, portable, emergent procedures, using proper technique and positioning to ensure safe and efficient imaging. Assists radiologist in a variety of procedures. Assists with medical imaging exams performed outside of main department. Assists all medical imaging modalities in imaging and daily duties. Direct observation and supervision by a registry eligible (graduate) or registered radiologic technologist is required. Follows radiation safety guidelines.

Reports to: Director of Diagnostic Services

Reviews patient history and physician’s orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient’s understanding and cooperation.

When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.

Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.

Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results.

Transports patients to and from the Medical Imaging department in a safe and courteous manner.

*Minimum Education*
High school diploma or equivalent – Required.
Current attendance in a school of radiologic technology – Required

*Required Skills*
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Must have effective communication.

*Minimum Work Experience*
6 months experience as in a clinical setting – Preferred.

*Required Skills*
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved American Heart Association training center must be obtained within 90 days of employment, if not current upon hire.
