Overview
Delivers preoperative care to the surgical patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. Assures optimum quality of patient care by serving as resource person for other staff members, patients and families. Coordinates patient care within surgical services and with other departments.
Assists the physician.
Assumes responsibility for evaluating and assessing patients being considered for surgery
Directs activities of preadmission testing
Maintains accurate documentation.
Assists in maintenance of a clean and orderly environment
Communicates with charge nurses, physicians and other team members
Participates in continuing education
Delivers direct patient care appropriate to age of patient served
Reports to: Surgical Services Director
Minimum EducationGraduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications:Basic Life Support (BLS) – to be obtained within 30 days
Required Licenses[West Virginia, United States] Other
Current licensure by WV State Board of Nursing
Minimum Work ExperienceSurgical services experience preferred
