Registered Nurse – Vascular Access
Position Summary:
* Responsible for the insertion of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC), midlines, Ultrasound IVs and difficult IVs, maintenance/follow-up care of PICC lines and central lines.
* Preceptor for RN’s who have successfully completed a training course for the insertion of PICC Lines.
* Initiates training and education to the nursing staff, patient/family asrequiredwhile supporting and fostering the goals of Sovah Health and the Department of Nursing.
* Demonstrates awareness of ongoing needs of the unit andprovidesleadership and direction to other team members inmaintainingoptimalstandards of nursing care.
* Documentsline insertion and maintenancein a timely manner.
* Coordinates with provider to ensure proper line is ordered.
* Performs rounds on patients with vascular access device to ensure lines are patent,intactand dressing clean.
* Assistswith weekly and PRN dressing for PICC, midlines and CVC.
* Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition asappropriate tocare team, physician, patient, and family.
* Detects change in patient status, reports toappropriate healthcare teammemberandutilizesresources as dictated by the acuity.
* Assigns priorities to the patient’s problems with highest priority given to problems that are most urgent and critical.
* Assistspatients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
* Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge,referraland spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
* Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family andprovidespatient/family educationappropriate toage, culture, condition, and circumstances.
* Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

Minimum Qualifications:
* Graduate of a Program in Professional Nursingrequired.
* Registered Nurse from the Virginia Board of Nursing or compact Staterequired.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Associationrequired.
* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association preferred.
* Successful completion of PICC insertion program with minimum 6 months experience in PICC insertion
* Requires critical thinking skills, decisivejudgmentand the ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Must be able towork in a stressful environment and takeappropriate action.
* Verbal ability to present information and ideas related to nursing theory and practice.
* Ability to accept responsibility and accountability.
* Requires the cognitive ability and practical ability toprovidenursing careappropriate tothe patient population assigned, considering patient age, growth and development, and diagnosis with full implementation of the nursing process to include Assessment/Reassessment, Nursing Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation.
