**Department Details**

As a dual role, this position is a member of two teams within the larger Sanford Health Marketing Department — Internal Communications and Media Relations.

Position located in Bismarck, ND, with potential to be hybrid (in-office and remote).

Some local or regional travel may be required, depending on media activities.

**Job Summary**

The Senior Communications and Media Relations Specialist is responsible for planning, developing and implementing internal communication strategies to promote an informed and engaged workforce while also promoting the brand through internal and external news media activities. The Senior Communications and Media Relations Specialist is a dual role responsible for developing and executing internal communications and media strategies. This role requires strong skills in written and verbal communication, interpersonal communication and customer service, project coordination and management, and adaptability within a fast-paced working environment. Building rapport with internal and external stakeholders, meeting deadlines and effectively working with cross-functional team members are paramount to the success of this position.

Internal Communications:

On the internal communications side, this position is responsible for delivering impactful employee communication strategies through various mediums to enhance engagement. The Specialist will lead the planning and coordination of internal communications for specific departments and initiatives, developing tactics and timelines tailored to the appropriate audience and executing effectively. This position is responsible for the weekly internal employee newsletter, employee intranet, leader communications and talking points, and other relevant communication support.

Media Relations:

On the media relations side, this position is responsible for all media-related activities, including coordinating and scheduling interviews, developing key messaging, media statements and leader talking points for complex topics as needed, authoring articles for Sanford Health News, and pitching stories to media partners to maximize earned media coverage. This position will generate press releases and media statements, coordinate press conferences and media events, rotate night and weekend on-call responsibilities with counterparts, and prepare and train media spokespersons.

**Qualifications**

Bachelors’ degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field is required. Master’s Business Administration (MBA) or Master’s degree in Communications or related field is preferred.

Minimum of three years of experience required.
