The Senior Staff Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager, and is located in San Diego, CA.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing journal entries, detailed reports, and account reconciliations and assist the Accounting Manager with general accounting duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform month end close processes through the completion of journal entries, preparation of financial statements and other close procedures.
- Perform Balance Sheet account reconciliations, account analysis, accrual calculations, and other related accounting documents/schedules
- Analyze, interpret, and communicate cost and expense variances to the Accounting Manager
- Analysis of financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting & procedural standards
- Maintain month end checklists and verify all related journal entries are accounted for and have adequate backup
- Prepare, compile, and distribute commission reporting
- Oversee all reporting related to our group selling organization
- Oversee the calculation and distribution of sales reports
- Ensure all company-imposed deadlines are being met, and if deadlines are going to be missed work with the Accounting Manager to rectify the issue
- Assist with budget preparation through preparation of periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs
- Oversee the preparation and filing of all sales tax
- Assist with system related issues
- Assist with accounting & administrative projects as requested
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner that fosters positive relationships with internal (company personnel) and external (vendors) customers
- Protects Company’s value by keeping information confidential
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
COMPETENCIES:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy

- Strong Working knowledge and understanding of economic accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis of financial data
- Working knowledge of business and management principles
- Advanced proficiency with MS Word, Excel, & Outlook

- Understanding of databases and queries

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- CPA preferred
- 3-5 years Accounting experience
- 6-months experience working heavy data entry with emphasis on timeliness and accuracy
- Previous experience with Lawson preferred
- Ability to successfully pass a background check
