*_Position Summary_*:
Under the direction of the Pharmacy Director assists in the day-to-day operations and administrative functions of the department.
*Essential Functions*
1. Manages, evaluates, and determines the training needs of the department. Assesses employee performance, documenting significant achievements and/or deficiencies, and coaching or counseling, as appropriate, to maximize employee capabilities and performance.
2. Oversees the orientation and training of new pharmacy staff. Oversees nursing pharmacy services education and training.
3. Establishes or coordinates department staff meetings, and in-service training sessions to address new/revised policies, procedures, systems and equipment.
4. Ensures that assigned staff comply with hospital and departmental policies, providing timely notification, interpretation and instruction.
5. Ensures the quality and timeliness of services provided by assigned personnel, by intervening as appropriate to adjust staffing or assignments, reorganize priorities or investigate and resolve problems.
6. Staffs as needed to maintain department operations including weekends.
7. Researches, develops and implements new/revised policies, procedures, and methods.
8. Works in collaboration with the Pharmacy Director to ensure compliance with designated Joint Commission, CMS, Board of Pharmacy, DEA and other regulatory requirements.
9. Responsible for the management of medication compounding throughout the facility. Policy development, training, and compliance of USP Chapters 795, 797 and 800. Serves as department representative during compliance surveys.
10. Ensures that required levels of documentation for operational policies and procedures are maintained to meet regulatory requirements.
11. Oversees the development and functioning in collaboration with the Director and Clinical Coordinator of a quality assurance and quality improvement program, and ensures that quality standards and performance criteria are established and monitored for trends, deviations, and staff development needs.
12. Works in collaboration with the Patient Safety/Experience Officer as the hospital’s medication safety leader. Certified Professional in Patient Safety credentialing is strongly encouraged.
13. Committee Chairman of the Medication Safety Team.
14. Participates on other assigned committees and collaboratives as assigned.
15. Triages and manages customer service issues.
16. Respond to automation hardware and software issues.
17. Dictionary maintenance and ongoing support of the pharmacy clinical application system.
18. Participates in procurement, implementation, and maintenance of department automation and equipment.
19. Works in collaboration with the Pharmacy Buyer for medication procurement.
20. Responsible for the support and ongoing maintenance of the Pharmacy Department Intranet Page and Physician Page.
21. Responsible for drug shortage communication and implementation of any resulting procedural and formulary changes.
22. Monitors and analyses narcotic operations.
23. Charge reconciliation and Sox compliance audits.
24. Works with Area L ACHE organizing the yearly Wilson Medical Center Symposium.
