Position Summary
Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.
* Preparessurgicaloperatingsuitewithdrapes,solutions,instruments,equipmentandsupplies.Ensuresgood workingorderofequipmentandinstruments.
* Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
* Passesinstrumentstophysicianduringsurgery.Continuallyaccountsfornumberandlocationofinstruments and supplies duringsurgery.
* Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory
* DemonstratescompetenceinpreparingandcleaningofORsuitesbeforeandbetweenproceduresbasedon patient’sinfectionclass.Assistsinterminalcleaningatendofday.Restockssupplieswhennecessary.
* Consistently adheres to aseptic technique. Maintains and monitors the sterile field.
* Observesandmonitorssterilefieldforbreaksinsurgicalasepsis.Checkspackageintegrity,expirationdates, andchemicalindicatorwhenopeningsterileitemsontothesterilefield.
* PreparesforeachandeveryprocedurebyreviewingPhysicianpreferencecards,collaboratingwithcirculating nurse and surgeon and utilizing other resources, as needed (more experienced staff, publications, vendorresources, manuals,etc.)
* Assuresthepresenceofallnecessaryinstrumentation,suppliesandequipmentandthattheirinworking orderpriortothebeginningofeachcase
* Exhibitsknowledgeandunderstandingofthesterilizationprocessandrequiredbiologicalmonitoringforall the sterilizationequipment.
* Scrubsandassiststhesurgeonintheperformanceofsurgicalprocedures,workingunderthesurgeon’s direction
* Participatesinthe”Timeout”processensuringcorrectsurgery,correctpatient,correctsiteandsideaspartofthesurgicalteamasperhospitalpolicy.
* Consistentlycomestoa”HardStop”andissupportiveoftheCirculatorRNduringthe”Timeout”process
* Responsibleforcollection,identificationandverificationofspecimenswiththeCirculatorRN.Demonstrates careofspecimensinamannerthatminimizesthepotentialforanyerrorsorspecimenmix-up.
* DemonstratesknowledgeofMalignantHyperthermiaincludinglocationofcartandtreatmentandcareofthe patient incrisis.
* Performscountsofneedles,sponges,instrumentsandothercountableitemswiththeRNCirculatorasper hospitalpolicy.Effectivelycommunicatescountswiththephysicianandadherestopolicyforincorrectcounts.
* Communicateseffectivelytooptimizepatientcare,promotepositivehumanrelationsandcontributestothe supportiveandcooperativeworkenvironment
* Consistently anticipates needs of surgeon before and throughout the procedure Appropriatelyrespondstothepatientinanemergencyorphysicallydistressfulsituation

* Assists in maintaining a safe, aseptic, and orderly environment including equipment and supplies

* Participatesinthere-stocking,re-supplyingandcleaningofoperatingrooms,specialtycartsandstoragearea
* Demonstrates thorough knowledge of location, care and operation of all surgical equipment
* Demonstratesunderstandingandutilizationofcostcontainmentprinciplesrelatedtoallresources(supplies, personnel, time,etc.)
* Assiststhephysicianinperformingendoscopyprocedureswhilemaintainingpatientsprivacybypreventing exposure.
* Performsendoscopyreprocessingwhilestrictlyadheringtoallcriticalstepsrequiredduringthereprocessing.
* Contributestotheteam-workofthedepartmentthroughcooperationandwillingnesstogoaboveand beyond what isexpected
* Orientsnewstaffandactsasapreceptorinsuringtheyarewelltrainedandcompetentasrequired.
* TakesresponsibilitytoassisttheCirculatornursesinmaintainandupdatingphysicianpreferencecardsasneeded.
* Demonstratesthoroughknowledgeofinstrumentreprocessingandactivelyassistsintheprocessingof instrumentsandequipment,asneeded.
* Thoroughly cleans each instrument, disassembling all parts and cleaning all lumens
* Performstrayassemblage,properpackagingandpreparationofallapplicablesuppliesforsterilization.
* Consistentlyutilizestraycomponentcards,ensuringcompletionandproperplacement.Assistswithupdatingtraycomponentcards,asrequested
* Immediatelyreportsmissingordamagedtray/packagecomponentstosupervisor.Replacesitemsorobtains directiontoassembleincompletetrays
Education Requirements
High School Diploma
Must be able to obtain BLS within 60 days of hire.
Position requires on call hours during the week and on weekends
