*Position Summary: Under the supervision of an RN, the telemetry technician is to assist the professional nursing staff by monitoring cardiac rhythms for those patients the physician has placed on telemetry. *
Performs continual surveillance of multiple monitors.
Identifies significant arrhythmias and/or signs of patient distress and intervenes appropriately. Identifies and corrects for artifacts.
Reports abnormal assessment and telemetry findings or changes in patient physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
Tests equipment for proper working order. Reports equipment problems to supervisor.Performs various duties related to the assigned nursing unit in accordance with established Hospital Policies and Procedures.

Required SkillsCertifications:X Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart AssociationIf this certification is not with AHA, new hire employee will have 30 days from hire to obtain.Competencies:Must complete telemetry certification and pass the “Basic EKG Interpretation” exam at time of hire.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Minimum Work ExperienceOne (1) year experience is preferred.
